Background

Rosebank Engineering Pty Ltd (Rosebank) is a privately owned company first established in 1977. In 1986, the company ventured into hydraulic flight-control servo-valve reclamation and other work associated with the F–111 aircraft. Since then, Rosebank has established itself as a leading innovator in advanced precision hydraulics, fine precision machining and ground support equipment (testing equipment) particularly in areas of high strategic importance, including a variety of air, land and maritime defence and aerospace systems and industrial engineering platforms. Rosebank has three Branches in three states of Australia, two of which are strategically located on Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) bases in Amberley, Queensland and Richmond, New South Wales.

Rosebank’s capabilities encompass engineering activities including: design, R&D, prototyping, complete production (machining, plating, painting, testing, NDT, etc.), spares provisioning and component life cycle management. Rosebank also maintains an aerospace and defence quality electroplating / material processing, painting, shot peening and non destructive testing facility.

How being in India benefited trade engagement activities

Juliet Brennan, Site Operations Manager for Rosebank, travelled to India on the April trade mission. Ms Brennan said that travelling to India gave her a real sense of the energy, optimism and drive of the people and culture.

Touring local industry also allowed her to gain a practical understanding of the current developmental stages of industry, and presented the opportunity to form business contracts within various Indian organisations that are primarily large and multi layered.

Hearing from, and being able to engage directly with, the various industry groups and sectors also provided Ms Brennan with an almost overwhelming appreciation of the opportunities in India, the size of the current market and opportunities for expansion of future markets.

Business proposal and outcomes

Rosebank has entered into an Indian Joint Venture (JV) with the creation of an Indian registered company VyoneeshRosebank Technologies Pvt Ltd (VRT). The inaugural maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) greenfield site is being established in Bangalore following the well-established aerospace business model of Rosebank.

Although the establishment of VRT JV and business development pre-dated the April 2011 Victorian Trade Mission, trade engagement has directly enhanced the overall VRT strategic growth model. The Bangalore start up MRO operation will provide the perfect spring board for the establishment of subsequent MRO facilities incorporated into the Special Economic Zone’s of Tier One, Two and Three airport developments.

Future activities

As an aerospace company the sky is effectively the limit however this statement is just as applicable to the future opportunities and activities within India.

Both the commercial and defence aerospace sectors provide for future expansion and growth across identified areas of:

  • MRO: providing indigenised industry capability across the geographic face of India

  • Manufacture: indigenisation of Indian supply chains

  • Engineering: recovery and management support of aging assets

  • Supply Chains: direct sourcing and spare procurement

  • Defence Offsets: provision of indigenised capabilities to meet negotiated offset obligations for Defence Contractors

  • New Technologies: embedding new developed technologies and utilisation of lower R&D cost bases

  • Asset Maintenance Program Management

  • Airport Ground Operations

  • Tertiary training Alliances: establishment of a nationally accredited Aerospace maintenance qualifications
