SLIP RESISTANCE: ASSESSING THE SAFETY OF FLOORING, WITH THE SURTRONIC DUO SURFACE ROUGHNESS MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENT FROM TAYLOR HOBSON

19 May 2012

Slips, trips and falls are the most common causes of serious injury at work and the need to implement safety control methods to address this problem is increasing.  The Surtronic Duo, a portable surface roughness instrument manufactured in UK by Taylor Hobson, is used to assess the risk of slipping accidents.

The Taylor Hobson Surtronic Duo allows the user to measure, analyse and assess the surface of flooring and work surfaces either on-site or in a laboratory/research environment during design/production.

The Taylor Hobson Surtronic Duo has easy to use features that allow the user to take measurements without any prior training.  The compact and lightweight (200g) design allows the Surtronic Duo to be carried around either clipped to the belt or in a handbag.  Measurements in tight places, such as staircases, can be easily taken.  The Surtronic Duo can be operated as a whole unit or split into two parts, allowing the measuring head to be placed on the surface and through an infrared link; measurements can be made via “remote control”.  The measurement cycle only takes about 5 seconds.

The Taylor Hobson Surtronic Duo has the versatility to assess a vast range of flooring materials such as vinyl, linoleum, quarry tiles, terrazzo, wood, epoxy, resin, screed and smooth concrete.
